GET TO KNOW OUR STORY
Humble Beginnings
At Young Space, our story begins with people. Our team comes from diverse backgrounds — from education consultancies, to the NDIS sector, to youth services. Across every area of supporting people, we noticed the same pattern: too often, services were one-size-fits-all.
We saw young people, newcomers, and people living with disability being offered generic solutions that didn’t reflect who they were or what they actually needed. The system wasn’t broken — but it wasn’t built for individuality.
That’s where Young Space comes in. We created a service that is genuine, people-centred, and tailored to each person. Instead of forcing people to fit into pre-set boxes, we shape our support around their goals, culture, strengths, and future.
Barriers International Students Face:
1
Understanding Australia’s Rental Crisis (and What it Could Mean for International Students) - Insider Guides
An article from Insider Guides discusses the difficulties international students face in securing housing upon arrival in Australia. It emphasises the lack of affordable options and the challenges posed by unfamiliar rental processes, reinforcing the necessity for services like Young Space that offer guidance and support.

Australians need six-figure income to afford average rental, report finds - ABC News
This surge in rental prices has led to a situation where even individuals earning six-figure salaries are struggling to afford housing. A report from Everybody's Home indicates that a single person now needs to earn at least $130,000 annually to comfortably afford the national weekly asking rent for a typical unit.

Tenants forced to pay up to $500 a week to lease a room - Realestate.com
International students in Australia face tough rental barriers. Agents often ask for 2–5 years of rental history, but most students arrive with none — and shared rooms rarely offer ledgers or references. Many end up paying up to $500 a week just to share. Without guidance, they’re left confused and stuck. That’s why support, tenancy coaching, and real rental history matter.

Supporting Newcomers
Pathways to Tenancy program
Starting fresh in a new country can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. For international students and young newcomers, the biggest challenges often go beyond study or work — it’s about finding housing, building connections, and learning how to navigate life in Australia.
At Young Space, we walk alongside newcomers to make this transition easier. Through our Pathways to Tenancy program, we provide more than just accommodation — we offer guidance, community, and the tools needed to build long-term stability.
We help with:
-
Finding safe, supported housing in shared spaces where community comes first.
-
Rental readiness coaching, teaching how to apply for homes, manage tenancy responsibilities, and build a rental history.
-
Settlement support, from understanding local services to practical living guidance.
-
Community connection, ensuring newcomers feel welcomed, not isolated.
For us, supporting newcomers is about more than a roof over your head. It’s about building a foundation for belonging and independence in a new place you can call home.

Youth work
Supporting Young People
Young people are at the heart of what we do. We know the teenage and early adult years can be full of challenges — from finishing school and starting work, to building independence, managing mental health, or simply finding a safe space to belong. Too often, young people are expected to “figure it out” without the support they really need.
At Young Space, we believe every young person deserves guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to thrive. That’s why our youth work is about more than just programs — it’s about creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people feel heard, valued, and connected.
We provide:
-
Mentoring and one-on-one guidance to help young people build confidence and independence.
-
Group programs that focus on teamwork, friendships, and life skills.
-
Creative opportunities that give young people a voice and a chance to lead.
-
Practical support to navigate challenges like education, employment, and wellbeing.
For us, youth work is about walking beside young people as they discover who they are and who they want to become. It’s about empowering them with the skills, connections, and confidence to create their own future.

Supporting NDIS Participants
Support Coordination
The NDIS has the power to change lives, but for many people it can feel complicated, overwhelming, and hard to navigate. Too often, participants and families are left trying to make sense of their plan on their own, not knowing who to trust or how to connect with the right supports.
At Young Space, our Support Coordination is about more than just managing services — it’s about making sure your plan works for you in real life. We take the time to understand each person’s goals, values, and strengths, then tailor supports around what matters most to them.
We focus on:
-
Clarity — helping participants and families understand their plan and funding.
-
Connection — linking people with the right providers, community services, and opportunities.
-
Confidence — building skills so participants can manage more of their supports over time.
-
Care — offering guidance that’s flexible, human, and genuinely centred on the individual.
Our team brings experience from every corner of the sector — from support work to youth programs to education — and we’ve seen first-hand how “one-size-fits-all” approaches fail people. That’s why we do things differently. We believe the best outcomes come from support that is personal, genuine, and shaped around the individual journey.
